The type of foundation to use, always select the one that will give you a flawless smooth skin that you don’t have to put anymore layers of cosmetics. Numerous brands are now being produce for different foundation types on different skin types. There are even classes of foundation that are allergy-tested and hypoallergenic for those who have skin allergies.

Pad foundations are used to support an individual point load such as that due to a structural column. They may be circular, square or reactangular. They usually consist of a block or slab of uniform thickness, but they may be stepped or haunched if they are required to spread the load from a heavy column. Pad foundations are usually shallow, but deep pad foundations can also be used.

Family Foundations : receive endowments from individuals or families. Family foundations show measurable donor or donor-family involvement, especially though participation on the foundation’s board of directors (e.g. Turner Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund).

Liquid Foundations: A thin film of liquid foundation is best for ‘natural look’ makeup and is most commonly used by women for daily purposes. It is easy to apply and is not easily visible. It comes in oil-based formulas for people with dry to normal skin and water-based formulas for people with oily skin. It is very important to match the foundation to your natural face complexion and the tone of your color. Most of the foundations come in pink-based, orange-based and yellow-based formulas. Yellow base is said to fit most of the women and is thus, very popular.

Cream foundation is another type of foundation that most women used. It comes in compacts and sticks. It is also the first choice among makeup artists as it gives a flawless smooth look and helps cover skin imperfections. Likewise, cream foundations are very easy to apply.

Powder foundations are the best method for those who have no time or only few minutes for doing makeup. One who wants to do quick makeup should use cream to powder foundations or dual active powder foundations. One can use this type of foundation as powder or cream and give a look as dry fresh-face. People who have oily or greasy skin use powder foundation.

Minerals are the latest thing in makeup. Their popularity has come about in part due to the fact that the foundation has very few ingredients, and those being inert minerals, tend to be perfect for people with allergies or sensitive skin. Brush on minerals with a big, puffy brush, building up layers of nearly-invisible powder. Advertised as a “soft-focus” look, mineral makeup has been compared with the airbrush in creating a flawless appearance.

Coil Spring or Box Spring: This foundation features a heavy-duty spring coil system to support the mattress. If the springs match the mattress it is called a coil upon coil box spring. The coils are made of a heavy-gauge wire to help absorb impact to the mattress. The coil spring foundation provides good support and a softer feel than the more basic foundations but reasearch has shown that boxsprings move too much and cause some innerspring mattresses to sag prematurely. Most mattress manufacturers have switched to a rigid foundation (see Modular Grid below) making mattresses last longer. For more information on coils and guages, see Coils and Guages.
